    DEALING WITH SCHOOL TRAGEDY

    DEALING WITH SCHOOL TRAGEDY

National tragedies and school shootings are becoming more and more frequent. At this rate, I would not be surprised if soon, every day of the year is a reason to have our American flag flying at half mast. Here's an article from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) concerning talking to your children about school violence. I hope that this article gives you a better understanding of how to shape your child's thinking and processing of school tragedies. T
    GARDENING CLUB

    GARDENING CLUB

A few of our middle school students have decided to give our garden a major cleanup. Didn't know we had a garden? It's to the right of our front door along the side of our building. For the past few weeks they have been raking leaves, pulling weeds, and cleaning up the planter boxes. Just recently, they began planting some new plants for the spring season. We look forward to see the things they grow! Related: Check out our blog article about how gardening can help educat
    CHRISTMAS CONCERT

    CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Last week, we held our annual Christmas concert. Our music teachers and students have been working very diligently in preparation for the event. MC1 - our assembly hall - was completely full as families came early to get seats. It was so exciting to see what all our students have been learning in the afterschool music programs. A very BIG shout out to Mrs. Christine Yip and Mrs. Rachel Kawilarang for organizing the event and teaching all the students throughout the first
THREE WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD WITH WRITING

THREE WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD WITH WRITING

Writing wasn't my passion growing up. It still isn't. I still remember spending hours in front of my computer trying to write essay after essay (the distraction of internet didn't help either). It felt like I would write for a few minutes and then enter a long portion of writer's block. The process would repeat over and over again until I finished. Often times, I found myself short of the length requirement. I resorted to changing the format of my essays on Word. 12 poi
    3 LESSONS FROM FUNDRAISING

    3 LESSONS FROM FUNDRAISING

When I was in elementary school, we had a yearly fundraiser in which each student was asked to sell Entertainment Books. An Entertainment Book is basically a book full of coupons that the buyer can use at various stores. With each book sold, CCS would get a margin of the sale. As a student, that’s not what motivated me to sell books. It was all about the prizes. There were different levels of prize rewards. You reached level 1 when you sold one book. The level one priz

Tomorrow is the first day of school for the 2017-2018 school year! We are so excited for this upcoming year. Our teachers have been working hard to prepare their classrooms and curriculum. As you arrive on campus tomorrow morning, keep an eye out for our giant "back to school" photo backdrop. We hope you will take some time to snap a photo of your child in front of the backdrop. Take a family photo too! We will have staff around to assist you in taking a family photo. W
6 REASONS TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS

6 REASONS TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS

I love playing sports.  When I was in high school, it was the one thing I always looked forward to.  It was a time where I could spend with my teammates and focus on something other than my schoolwork. Many feel it takes away from academics and that there will not enough time to do both.  Here are some reasons why participating in sports is beneficial for students. Exercise It seems pretty obvious, but we often fail to consider how much time students sit compared to being a
PLANT SMILES. GROW FRIENDSHIPS. HARVEST LEARNING.

PLANT SMILES. GROW FRIENDSHIPS. HARVEST LEARNING.

The past few years, my parents have gotten into gardening. They cleared some space in our backyard and built two planter boxes. They planted a stalk of green onions and now we always have a supply of them in our garden. Need some? All we need to do is go outside and snip the amount we need. It’s great. Then my mother started growing zucchini. It’s a real easy vegetable to grow. It can take over the garden. The downside? We now have tons of zucchini! My mother tri
    Summer School Starts!

    Summer School Starts!

Today marked the first day of summer school! With the education building painted with a fresh coat of paint, the building was busy with students from various schools getting to know one another and meeting their teachers. The afternoon enrichment classes had students excited for tomorrow. #school #ccsrams #ccsrams1718
